Stories of Earth-life Balance with Angela Tsai of Mamachic

Lara Neece May 12, 2015

Meet Angela, the founder and designer of Mamachic Co (link to mamachic.co)., a company committed to making sustainable and beautiful accessories geared towards new mamas, but worn by all. Angela completed the Factory45 program with me last year and has been a great friend and resource. Her first signature piece, the Mamachic Scarf, is an all-in-one reversible scarf made with sustainable bamboo fabric and strategic snap buttons; it can be used to nurse, burp and swaddle a baby, then seamlessly transition into a wearable scarf, top, headwrap, or even skirt. Angela travels the country full-time with her actor husband and two small children (isn't that just amazing?)  and needed something like the Mamachic to embrace the minimal, eco-friendly and stylish lifestyle she leads — so she decided to create it herself.

It's Happening Soon!

Lara Neece April 17, 2015

I officially started filling out my KickStarter project this week!!! While I don't feel quite ready (will I ever?), One Spark Festival was the push I needed. I realized after speaking with 1500+ people over the course of the festival, that while I may only be designing a skirt, this is an item that appeals to all ages, races, cultures, and size - that's exciting! The world is ready for the skirt, and the skirt is almost ready for its debut.

Greetings from One Spark Festival in Jacksonville!

Lara Neece April 9, 2015

I can't tell you how excited I am to see the azaleas in full bloom surrounded by green grass and new growth - not to mention being able to hop on my bike and take the Bicycle Wrap Skirt for a spin whenever I feel like it. If you've been following me on Instagram then you've already gotten a taste of what I've been up over the past few weeks: testing out a new fastening system, getting my production details organized, and preparing for One Spark Festival in Jacksonville, FL, which is where I'm setup right now.

A Contest, a Convention, and Creative Solutions

Lara Neece March 12, 2015

The past two weeks have gone by in a whirlwind. Last week, I participated in (and won!!) the FastPitch business contest in Savannah for local startups and this week I flew up to DC where I attended the Women and Biking Forum at the National Bike Summit. Whew! More social interaction and networking than this little introvert knew what to do with (aka I'm still processing). This just proves that you can achieve and succeed at things you never imagined you'd do. :)

Lara Neece February 19, 2015

Meet Mikaela, my friend and fellow Factory45 entrepreneur (applications are open for the 2015 program!) who just launched her colorful, funky kidswear shop, Ruth & Ragnar on Tuesday. Mikaela Wallinder Clifford has combined a background in humanitarian work with her life-changing experiences as a mother to create a socially responsible apparel company for kids.

Feels so good to put pencil to paper again. It’s been a while! Creative breaks have been few and far between these past few years, but luckily it all comes back pretty quickly. A little rusty and still a work in progress, but it’s a start
These toddler Hammerhead Shark tees are just too cute! They are available in 2T, 3T, and 4T sizes. I’m thinking about offering adult sizes, too. 🤔 What do you think?

Some of my favorite Mom moments are spending time outside with my boy and sharing the beauty of the natural world with him. We talk about animals, plants, birds, bugs, nuts, dirt, water, wind, and sun. We listen, look, and experience all the little t
My happy place lately. Social distancing has been tough for sure. Closing my shop; preschool being closed; no babysitting help; few adult conversations; zero “me time”; and no friend visits or play dates have really changed my day-to-day

Forest and Fin

We are designed to be outside.

Inspired by the environment and three-and-a-half years living on a small sailboat, designer Lara Neece spent the last of her savings to purchase equipment, set up a screen-printing studio, and create her company Forest and Fin. An award-winning artist and self-taught graphic designer, she designed and printed her first nature-inspired screen-printed apparel by hand using water-based inks and a manual press. Forest and Fin balances beauty,  functionality, and responsible design to inspire people to spend more time outside. Items are made as earth-friendly as possible with portions of revenue giving back to environmental conservation efforts.
